Advertising for Advertising

Newsweek, Sep 24

It sounds awful to me. They will never know how many people lose their job due to advertising. Perhaps half a century of cultural studies had done a good job in blaming them for accelerating consumerism and so they are now fighting back, bold and unconcealed. I'm just wondering what our life would be when there was no advertising. We still live, right?

We will not live.
We are part of advertisement.

好深奧=..="
我沒有想太多,只是廣告造就了很多垃圾,但又帶給我很多樂趣.
如果沒有了廣告,我猜人們大概會發明另一些更有趣的東西吧!可能是完全不同的世界!

I just cannot imagine how the way people communicate will change without advertising

i also found it hard to imagine and so i tried to trace back the time our world was not yet occupied by advertising but then questions arise: what's the first advertising in world? what can be defined as advertising? the list could go on and on...

Therefore I wonder if advertising should not be treated as an invader. What if it is just part of our communication? There must be something in our culture catalyzing the domination of advertising.
